The wines of Majorca, a pleasure to be enjoyed with the five senses

In the east of the island some of the most exceptional wines of Majorca are produced, thanks to their exquisite flavour and exceptional quality

Red wines, white wines, rosés, sparkling wines, liqueur wines... Of all colours and for all tastes. A total of thirteen wineries and almost seventy vine growers offer wines with the Majorca Pla i Llevant Designation of Origin, as well as many other producers from the east of the island who offer their highly-prized wines with the Geographical Indication Vino de la Tierra Mallorca.

Loyal to the native grape

The vines, that have been cultivated since Roman rule, grow in the east of Majorca at almost sea level and benefit from the effects of the sea breezes. For several years now, wine growing in Majorca has been flourishing, thanks in part to increasing exports to Europe. The Germans are charmed by the delicious coupages that use Majorcan varieties such as Callet or Manto Negro in combination with classic French grapes such as Merlot and Syrah.

In the east of Majorca, some of the native white varieties used include Premsal Blanc and Giró Ros, whereas the red varieties are Callet, Manto Negro, Fogoneu and Gorgollassa. Amongst the international varieties, the most notable are the Chardonnay, Riesling and Muscatel whites and the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah reds.

Wine route in the east of Majorca

Winegrowers are taking advantage of this highly-favourable moment for Majorcan wine to open the doors to their wineries and offer tasting sessions of their most exceptional wines along with guided tours of their vineyards and bodegas. Only a few kilometres from Cap Vermell, visits can be made to wineries such as Pere Seda (Manacor), Miquel Oliver (Petra) and Miquel Gelabert (Manacor). Even lovers of organic wines can enjoy an excellent white at the Can Coleto Winery (Petra), that produces wines using ecological agricultural methods.

Wine tourism goes far beyond simple wine-tasting: it is an experience for all the senses in which the landscape of the vineyards and the wine culture can also be enjoyed, and, in cases where local gastronomy is on offer, so too can the best wine-pairing in a magical symbiosis of local products with Majorcan wine.
